I've been wanting to write since day 1, but procrastination stole not only my time but also some of my enthusiasm. I have come to my senses (finally) and feel that, it would be such a waste to let all the strange happenings whether good or bad, pass by unrecorded just because i can't keep my two aforementioned belongings safe.
DAY 21.
Egypt is the home of dilapidated cars and I love it for that. It's as if the whole world conspired to collect the most dodgy looking cars and ship it to egypt where, dodgy seems alright after all. Each with its own polluting method, from poisoning passengers with the pungent smell of petrol to suffocating pedestrians with severe smoke emission.
You see new cars with the seat plastic untorned and unopened but already heavily dented. You see buses so full, it looks like it might burst and disperse pieces of its metal self all around cairo. You often question the road safety practiced ( or the lack thereof ), but everything seems to be ok (except for the occasional mishaps, but that happens everywhere).
but a year has definitely changed this land. 365 days changed not the structure of the city, but the vibe it emits. There are less Quran Recitations played in vehicles, in stores, in restaurants . The morning atmosphere(supposed to be the cleanest) is just as hazy, dusty and somehow murky as any other time of the day. There are more cars on the road despite the increased poverty ( the evolving needs ).
I can go on writing a 1001 other bad changes, but my love for Egypt is still and will remain there, because one thing that hasn't changed is the love and safety I feel when I am there.
Which is why, I believe this is a topic I must share. Egypt.
